A bit about what to expect.
The first thing I feel important to note is that the baby will typically determine the flow of the session. Newborns are unpredictable and this shoot is all about them. Please do not worry about your baby crying or needing to eat or be bopped, bounced or soothed during the shoot - newborn sessions are intentionally longer to allow for plenty of breaks, feedings and diaper/outfit changes.
Patience is very important for both photographer and the parents. Babies can pick up on anxiety or nervousness. Newborn sessions typically take around two hours to get beautiful images – the end result is totally worth it.
I will have snacks, drinks, a full changing station and a kids play area for the toddlers. I recommend bringing a quiet time activity for your older children, so that they have something to do while I am getting the solo shots of your newborn.
We will do some photos of the entire family, some with each parent and some of baby only. Throughout your session, I will focus on all the amazing details your new little baby- Their unique details and expressions, you and your partner and baby's siblings holding and interacting with them and the baby laying or moving around naturally.
Babies love to be warm and toasty so I will have the studio warmed to about 80-85 degrees for the session. For the some of our session, baby will be dressed but there’s nothing sweeter than photographing a new baby in their birthday suit and while it’s important to me to capture these sweet details, it’s equally important that your baby is cozy and comfortable. I recommend dressing in layers so that you can be comfortable when you are not in the photos! I have a client sitting area that won’t be as warm at the shooting area but it will still be nice and toasty!
I have some beverages and snacks available while you are relaxing as well. (and some goodies for the older kiddos, too!)
My studio is located at 1509 6th St in the Lower Garden District in New Orleans. 6th and Prytania are the closest cross streets.
Street parking is available in the neighborhood and is typically easily to find on 6th street.
Please note that the studio is on the second floor, and the stairs are outdoor stairs. I would love to help you make your way in. Please plan to text or call when you arrive and I will help you up.
A bathroom is available in the studio, as well as a changing area for baby.
It is my hope that you feel comfortable and at home when you visit the studio. I am truly honored to be able to document this incredible time in your lives and look forward to getting to know you and your sweet baby!
